A Story Rooted in Return

Big House Farm began not with buildings or crops—but with a calling.
In 2021, Neo, a South African entrepreneur with a deep love for food, art, and cultural connection, and Jamal, a yoga teacher from Detroit with a global spirit and spiritual grounding, stood on this quiet land in Winterfeld. The house that once gave the farm its name had long since crumbled. The soil lay waiting.

With no electricity, no buildings—just the open sky and the memory of what once was—they began. What they are now growing is more than a farm: it is a place of rest, healing, and restoration. A place to reconnect with what matters most.

Restoring the Land

Every stone, every seed, every fence post has been placed with care. With a borehole, solar system, vegetable beds, a greenhouse, and a growing fruit and nut forest, we’re rebuilding from the ground up—with respect for biodiversity and tradition.

Growing Together

Joined by Nick from Educational Greenhouse, we’ve expanded our work to include training, beekeeping, and natural building. Together, we’re shaping a space that feeds both people and ecosystems, through permaculture and Ubuntu.

More Than a Farm

Big House Farm is a learning space, a healing space, a community project, and a sanctuary. Whether you visit for a weekend or join a workshop, the land invites you to slow down, listen deeply, and become part of the story.

The Name That Held On

Even when the house was gone, the name remained. Big House Farm—a place remembered by the community as a center, a shelter, a gathering space. And now, that name is rising again—not through grandeur, but through purpose.

Today, this land is tended with intention. It is being reimagined as a regenerative space where people return to themselves, the earth, and one another. What we build here is shared—not only with the community around us, but with anyone who feels the call to reconnect. Whether you come to plant, learn, meditate, or simply be still—there is space for you here.
